Human Rights Reviews

Apart from CEDAW, there are various other UN mechanisms/processes. Some of them are:

UPR: The UPR is a State-driven process, under the auspices of the Human Rights Council, which provides the opportunity for each State to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to fulfil their human rights obligations. It involves a review of the human rights records of all the UN member states every 4 years.

Other Treaties: Apart from CEDAW, there have been various other treaties that have been signed by the South-Asian Countries.

Country Visits: An important part of the work of the Special Rapporteur is the conducting of country visits to assess in greater detail the situation of the judiciary and the wider legal system and where appropriate to make recommendations for its improvement.

Below are the links to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights’ country page of the South-Asian countries. You will find up-to-date information of the various processes mentioned above.
